Four penalized for recent disputes at Orange
Show Speedway
SAN BERNARDINO (Aug. 29, 2007) –
Orange Show Speedway has suspended one driver and placed three others
on probation as a result of incidents that occurred during recent races
at the ASA-sanctioned quarter-mile oval.
Jim Mardis, the reigning ASA Stock Pony champion,
has been suspended for the balance of the year while Tony Forfa III,
Ryan Becker and Derek Becker have been placed on probation for the remainder
of the season.
Mardis, 22, was suspended effective Aug. 25 for violating
Orange Show Speedway rules 6-1.3, 6-1.2 and 1-18.1 during that night’s
races. Rule 6-1.3 covers profanity, discourteous gestures and behavior
detrimental to the sport. Rule 6-1.2 deals with rough driving, among
other items, and Rule 1-18.1 addresses dangerous and/or erratic driving
in the pit area.
Mardis, of Riverside , had been placed on probation
following an incident with Stock Pony rival Jim Edmiston July 28.
Forfa III and the Beckers were placed on probation
for violating rule 6-1.3, behavior detrimental to the sport, during
their altercation in the pit area following a Jr. Mini StocKar race
Aug. 18.
There is no stock car racing at Orange Show Speedway
this weekend, although the OSS Quarter Midget Racing Association will
be hosting its Desert Shootout invitational. The stock cars will return
with the Hype Manufacturing Super Late Models, ASA Pro 4s, Aflac Factory
Fours, Stock Cars USA, Mini StocKars and the final Demolition Derby
of the season.
