Familiar faces occupy Orange Show Speedway
winner’s circle
SAN BERNARDINO (April 28, 2007) –
Repeat winners were the order of the night Saturday at Orange Show Speedway
with Tom Smith, Jim Edmiston and Jim Conklin all building on their early
season success with main event victories.
Smith ran off with his fourth win in as many tries
in the 35-lap Lucas Oil Outlaw Figure 8 feature, Edmiston made it three
for four in the 30-lap ASA Stock Pony main and Conklin got his second
win in the 35-lap BSR West Late Model race in front of a crowd of 2,281.
Smith, who won six races and the Figure 8 championship
at Irwindale Speedway last season, quickly has laid claim to the course
in the infield of this quarter-mile oval, with all of his wins coming
by wide margins. Saturday, he started sixth in the 10-car field, but
took the lead on lap seven and drove away as all of his pursuers except
runner-up Jay Henson encountered problems.
Edmiston, the fast qualifier, started his Clearwater
Pipeline Ford Pinto on the outside of the first row in his 18-car field,
took the lead from pole-sitter Linny White on the first lap and withstood
constant pressure from Wildomar’s Matt Goodwin over the final
15 laps.
Conklin, the defending class champion, said he had
to work extremely hard for his win. The fast qualifier, Conklin started
sixth in the 12-car field. He moved his Chevrolet-powered Pontiac Grand
Prix into third on lap 20, claimed second on lap 23 and took the lead
away from Justin DeJaynes on lap 26. Richard Hooper, who had won two
weeks ago, moved into second on lap 30, but never could mount a bid
for the lead.
In the other races on the schedule, Kyle Meyer of
Highland captured the 25-lap ASA Street Stock main and Murrieta’s
Gary Scheuerell took the 30-lap Leno’s Rico Taco Legends Cars
race.
