Wine Tasting on a Beautiful Autumn Night
We had our 29th Wine and Food Under the Stars charity event last Thursday. This is a tasting event where guests can eat different types of food and try wine from local wineries. All of the proceeds go to The National Orange Foundation, which provides assistance to local charities.
Our lagoon had scattered tables between each food stand, the night was cool and the lagoon fountain was a perfect back drop. As Frank Sinatra’s voice floated on the air, people chattered while enjoying the flavors of local wines. There was food of all sorts: Mexican food, Italian classics, sandwiches, barbecue and dessert. In the center was a spread from the National Orange Shows own chef, featuring Italian classics such as, mac n’ cheese balls, shrimp cocktails, and an array of cheeses.
The local wines were placed in the center of the event; many of the wines featured were from Temecula and Paso Robles. The volunteers pouring the wine were friendly and helpful when trying to find a unique wine that each individual would like. The volunteers were members of our own community and many were returning volunteers who have worked the event for years.
There was a silent auction at the event, raffle tickets, and a live auction. The live auction included prizes such as a private wine tasting for six, and a private dinner at the National Orange Show for 10. All of the profits from the event will go to the National Orange Show Foundation. Our foundation provides funds for local programs such as, services that benefit at risk children, services that improve quality of life, student scholarships and other local charities.
